Coalition Chooses Survival Over Accountability

MP Omar Ottley criticized the coalition after Parliament voted 6–7 against dismissing VROMI Minister Patrice Gumbs. Ottley argued that the DP, URSM, and PFP coalition chose political survival over accountability despite public frustration over sewage problems, garbage collection, permit delays, weak infrastructure, rising fuel costs, and the GEBE crisis. He said the motion followed months of dissatisfaction, not sudden politics, and claimed coalition MPs acknowledged concerns but defended the minister based on recent improvement. Ottley called the vote a missed opportunity to restore confidence and urged leaders to put country, principle, and accountability before coalition interests.
