Dutch Caribbean energy transition must be tailored, not copy-paste Dutch subsidies

At the Inter-Parliamentary Kingdom Consultation (IPKO) in The Hague, Roban van Herk, a TNO consultant and co-author of an energy transition report, stated that the Dutch SDE++ subsidy model is not directly applicable to Aruba, Curaçao, and St. Maarten. Van Herk emphasized that these Caribbean countries require tailored support for their energy transition efforts, rather than a "copy-paste" approach. Specific needs highlighted include investment in electricity infrastructure, batteries, and backup capacity. This assessment underscores a call for customized strategies to effectively facilitate the energy transition goals in the Dutch Caribbean, recognizing their distinct requirements compared to the Netherlands.
