Fire Dept. Urges Public to Exercise Extreme Caution Amid Elevated Bush Fire Risk

The Sint Maarten Fire Department has issued an urgent warning to residents, landowners, farmers, contractors, and business owners regarding an elevated bush fire risk across the island. Prolonged dry weather conditions have made vegetation highly combustible, significantly increasing the danger of rapid fire spread, especially with strong winds. The department highlighted that bush fires pose serious threats to homes, businesses, lives, emergency responders, wildlife, and the natural environment. Consequently, the public is strongly advised to exercise extreme caution and refrain from discarding lighted materials, such as cigarettes, cigars, or matches, particularly in high-risk areas like roadsides, vacant lots, hillsides, and areas with dry grass or brush.
