The Court of First Instance convicted former immigration officer W.C.C. for violating official secrecy in connection with a human-smuggling investigation, though the defendant was not tried or convicted for human smuggling itself. The court imposed 180 hours of community service, a three-month conditional prison sentence with a three-year probation period, and a five-year ban from working as a civil servant. The case began with a 2024 investigation by KPSM’s Human Smuggling Team, the Prosecutor’s Office, and National Detectives. Prosecutors emphasized that secrecy violations by border officials damage trust, investigations, and border security.
