Flag Day 2026: Message from the Minister of Culture

Sint Maarten's Minister of Culture, Hon. Melissa Gumbs, delivered a message on June 13th to mark Flag Day, commemorating the 41st anniversary of the national flag's recognition. Emphasizing the flag's role as a significant national symbol, Minister Gumbs highlighted its origin in 1983. She noted that the flag was designed by then-seventeen-year-old student Roselle Richardson, following a public competition initiated by the government. The Minister underscored the flag's importance, citing its display at the United Nations and by CARIFTA athletes on international platforms, urging residents to collectively celebrate its enduring significance.
