Kpsm Condemns Armed Attack on Police Officers Early Tuesday Morning. Shots Fired at Responding Patrol

The Police Force of Sint Maarten (KPSM) is investigating an incident where officers faced gunfire in the Cole Bay area early Tuesday, June 30, 2026. Shortly after 4:00 a.m., a police patrol responded to Union Road following reports of an attempted scooter theft. Upon arrival, officers encountered two suspects who brandished a firearm. Officers discharged their weapons in self-defense, leading to the suspects returning fire before fleeing the scene. KPSM stated this serious incident is currently under investigation. The confrontation occurred during the officers' initial investigation at the scene of the reported theft.
