Mp Doran Raises Concern Over Criteria Used in General Practitioner Approval Process

MP Egbert Doran raised concerns about Prime Minister Luc Mercelina’s statements in Parliament regarding approval for a doctor to practice as a general practitioner in Sint Maarten. Doran questioned whether the Prime Minister approved the doctor despite advice citing lack of family doctor specialization, especially after Mercelina said only four of nineteen local GPs have that certificate. Doran also criticized the suggestion that personal familiarity with a doctor’s work influenced approval. He called for clear answers on whether licensing decisions follow law, qualifications, and professional advice, warning that patient safety, fairness, liability, and government accountability are at stake.
