Former parliamentary candidate Julian H. Rollocks jr. continues to advocate for the implementation of a prepaid electricity system in Sint Maarten, a concept he championed during the January 2024 parliamentary elections. Rollocks emphasized the perceived advantages for consumers, businesses, landlords, and tenants, noting that neighboring islands have already introduced such systems. The local utility company, GEBE, recently confirmed through Mr. Drijvers that it is actively working towards establishing a prepaid electricity service. Rollocks, however, questioned the timeline for its readiness, expressing a desire for more clarity on when the system would be fully operational for Sint Maarten's public.
