Sint Maarten Library Hosts Cultural Reenactment in Commemoration of Emancipation Day at the University of St. Martin

The Sint Maarten Library will host a cultural presentation and theatrical reenactment on Saturday, July 4, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM, at the University of St. Martin in Great Bay, Sint Maarten. This event commemorates Emancipation Day and the 1863 abolition of slavery in the Dutch Caribbean. The presentation will feature a live reenactment inspired by the children's book "New Moon for Quashiba," written by local author Joselyne Arnell. The Sint Maarten Development Fund, the Department of Culture, and the Herdenkingscomité Slavernijverleden (Slavery Memorial Committee) are supporting the program, with the Slavery Memorial Committee contributing to its realization. The public is invited to attend this immersive heritage experience.
