Unesco honours pupils at 2026 Wire Bending Exhibition

The St. Maarten National Commission for UNESCO recognized pupils from five schools during its 2026 Wire Bending Exhibition and Certificate Ceremony. The week-long event, held from June 15-19, took place at St. Dominic Primary, St. Joseph, Oranje Primary, MAC (Browlia Maillard Campus), and Sr. Borgia Primary Schools. The initiative celebrated students' creativity while aiming to preserve and promote St. Maarten’s traditional wire bending as a vital element of intangible cultural heritage. The program encourages young people to appreciate local craftsmanship. Minister of Education, Culture, Youth and Sport Melissa Gumbs and Foundation Catholic Education Executive Director L. Aventurin-Hodge were among the attendees.
